Intergenerational Book Club: Sweet Hearts

Our second Intergenerational Book Club meeting was a sweet success! Since we met just before Valentine’s Day, a resident at the Assisted Living Center read Sweet Hearts by Jan Carr to the group of kids.

This simple story was perfect for our youngest members, because it shows a little bear making and giving (along with hiding a few) Valentine hearts for his loved ones (including sending one to Grandma). A brief description of Valentine’s Day is provided at the beginning of the book and instructions about how to make hearts is at the end.

After reading, we provided construction paper, scissors, pencils, glue, and lots of Valentine’s themed craft materials and stickers. The kids and residents gathered around a table while the crafting commenced!  While there were some lovely hearts created, the best part was watching the residents interact with, hold, and hug those sweet kiddos. We’re looking forward to continuing to build these relationships next month!
